Rumory

Sunday, May 19th, 2002

It's looking more and more like the Minority Report game is not connected with the other sites mentioned in a previous rumor. We're considering splitting them into two descriptions, Minority Report and Precog. What do you think?

Also, Carlitoxxi has provided us with a few interesting links. Hidden Alliance has a flashy introduction but I can't quite figure out where to go from there (at least not in the full 30 seconds I devoted to trying). I didn't even last 30 seconds on the Majackass site because of the music, so you'll have to let me know what it's all about. Carlitoxxi's favored site is X-Area-X, which sports a "real-time game that will challenge your mind and emotions" called Unknown Link. Unfortunately, I'm already mentally and emotionally challenged.

As an aside to potential puppetmasters, I'd personally recommend against using free hosting websites to run your game. The required banners and popups are distracting and sure to mislead the less experienced players.

Minority Report Update?

Wednesday, May 15th, 2002

We're not sure yet if this is part of a campaign based around the upcoming Steven Spielberg movie, Minority Report, but a new site was posted to the Cloudmakers and Jawbreakers mailing lists today.

A new Cloudmaker signing his email as "Andy" posted a link to a blog that his "friend sent." The company hosting this blog, Personal Fusion, has a copyright date of 2013. There is also a link on the blog to an Institute for Precognitive Studies, with another 2013 copyright date. There's definitely something fishy going on here, but is it part of Minority Report? That movie is set in 2054 according to a recent Wired interview with the director.

A message forum for the Minority Report game has been set up over at Vital Productions. There is also a Yahoo! group for additional resources.

My first impression says that these new sites may be based on the same universe as the movie, but that they're not affiliated with Fox. We'll keep you updated when we hear more.

Spooks

Monday, May 13th, 2002

Mister_pol reports on the Cloudmakers list:

The BBC over here in good old Blighty have unleashed a new interactive online drama to promote a new MI5 spy drama, "Spooks" premiering on UK TV tonight.

It seems to be a cross between the Beast and Majestic – The creator has given a nod to our little game – "We owe a debt to Spielberg because he launched a similar game in the States when his film AI came out, but with that it was possible to solve all the clues at once, whereas this takes place in real time," he says.

The creators are expecting around 200,000 people to join in…

More information can be found in a Media Guardian feature titled, "Spies like us."

The starting page of the game is www.thameshouse.net. A small game FAQ is also provided on the BBC website.

The Hive

Sunday, May 12th, 2002

Elan Lee and Sean Stewart, two of the cohorts who mastered the Beast in 2001, are said to be working on a new game. Nothing much is known except that "the hive" is hard at work on the Son of the Beast.
